I am a high school senior at Riverbend High School working toward a career as a Registered Nurse. Right now I work part-time as a Dietary Aide at Hollis Creek Senior Living, where I serve meals to residents, follow individual diet cards, and help Spanish-speaking residents and their families communicate with staff. That hands-on experience in a care setting has confirmed that nursing is exactly where I want to be. Through my Health Science class I completed a CNA unit covering vital signs, safe patient transfers, infection control, and respectful patient communication. I earned my CPR and First Aid certification through that course and practiced clinical skills in a lab setting. My coworkers and the families I have worked with describe me as patient, calm, and organized, and I have been trusted to train newer aides on reading and following diet cards. Outside of work and school I volunteer at a community food pantry on Saturdays, where I pack grocery boxes, staff the sign-in table, and translate for Spanish-speaking families. I also created a bilingual sign-in sheet in English and Spanish that the pantry still uses today. Playing varsity soccer as a defender has taught me how to stay focused under pressure and support the people around me. I am looking for a CNA or patient care technician opportunity where I can build more hands-on clinical experience while I work toward earning my Registered Nurse credential.
